The Asia North Area Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints congratulates His Majesty the Emperor of Japan upon his ascension to the Chrysanthemum Throne. Similarly, they expressed appreciation for the efforts of his father, the Emperor Emeritus, stating, “Even as we witness the ending of the Heisei Era, along with the renewing spring rains, we welcome in the Reiwa Era.”
Members of the Church, numbering over 130,000 in Japan, sincerely appreciate the humble example of the Emperor Emeritus. Particularly touching was the way he shared in the joys and sorrows of the people, including those affected by the Tōhoku earthquake and the Fukushima nuclear disaster in 2011. As he knelt to look the victims in their eyes, he helped lift their burdens and gave hope to an entire nation.
The Church supports His Majesty the Emperor’s desires to follow his father’s example and to serve as a noble symbol, standing with the people and working for their happiness. The Church further shares His Majesty's concerns about the treatment of children. In accordance with the teachings of the Savior, Jesus Christ, the Church believes that a return to the Japanese custom of strong families that love and support one another can bring happiness and help resolve many of the current problems in this great nation. The Church looks forward to working on these issues to help create a Beautiful Harmony for Japanese families during the Reiwa Era.
